Each year in November, thousands of Australians have the opportunity to change the face of men’s health by bringing awareness to common issues including mental health, suicide prevention, prostate and testicular cancer.

What is Movember?

Movember is an annual event which involves the growing of moustaches during the month of November to help raise awareness of men’s health issues. While Movember is dedicated to all aspects of men’s health and well-being, its three key focus areas are prostate cancer; testicular cancer; and mental health & suicide prevention.

The charity hosts an annual Movember campaign (during the month of November) in which people raise funds and awareness for men’s health issues through peer-to-peer fundraising on Movember.com. Using the moustache as the driving symbol of the movement, the Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event and the main goal of Movember “change the face of men’s health.”

Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 health projects around the world to provide research, resources and transform health services and the way they reach and support men. The goal of this organisation is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%, all by 2030.

Individuals and companies around the world can contribute by growing a moustache or ‘mo’ and raising money through donations and events.  Aptly named ‘Mo Bros’ and ‘Mo Sisters’, a total of more than five million people have taken part since 2003.

By encouraging men to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Since inception, the Movember Foundation has raised $837 million and funded over 1,200 projects in more than 20 countries.

This year, Voltora Industries are taking part in Movember, with six staff members taking part by growing a ‘mo’ and others supporting through fundraising and donations. We are passionate about raising funds for mental health, suicide prevention, prostate and testicular cancer – all key areas supported by Movember. Through our Go Fund Me page, we seek to raise awareness and funds towards Movember’s international endeavours.

Our six staff members taking part in the challenge and growing a ‘mo’ for Movember are:

For those interested in being involved in this year’s Movember, there are many ways you can be involved. Whether you can grow a ‘mo’ or support a ‘mo’ as a ‘Mo Sister’, you can help bring awareness to men’s health across the globe.

If you can grow a ‘mo’, then use your face to raise funds and awareness by signing up for Movember as an individual or a team. You can subsequently encourage your family, friends and colleagues to support you by donating to your cause.

Can’t grow a ‘mo’ for whatever reason? You can Move for Movember by running or walking 60km over the month of November. Why 60km? This raises awareness and keeps the memory alive for the 60 men lost to suicide every hour across the globe. Gather the support of those close to you to support you in this challenge!

You can also host a Mo-ment by rallying your family, friends or colleagues with an event of your choice. This can be in person or even virtually, as long as you have a good time! None of these options suit you? No problem! You can Mo Your Own Way by coming up with your own wildcard idea! Choose physical endurance or another challenge that works for you and encourage your closest family and friends to support you financially.

Encourage your network to join a challenge together and make Movember even more fun. Whether you’re a family, a group of friends or colleagues, you can choose to create a team and participate together. There are also challenges listed on the Movember website that you can take part in. Mo Mining Challenge, Mo Banking and Finance Challenge, Mo Construction Challenge, Mo Technology Challenge, Mo Business Challenge and Mo Schools Challenge are just a few of the challenges you can get involved in this year.

Why not make it more exciting by checking out the individual, team, challenge and global leaderboards to see where you or your team rank?

Don’t go it alone, regardless of what you choose to take part in. Movember has a ton of fundraising resources available online to help you promote your cause and keep on top of your challenges. From a style guide of the different moustaches to a fundraising guide, toolkits and posters, you’ll find everything you need to take part in Movember this year. Interested in hosting an in-person or virtual event? Mo problem! Movember has guides and marketing collateral available for you online.

Whether you’re raising funds, participating in a challenge or hosting an event, your contribution is incredibly valuable to men everywhere. Globally, it’s estimated that men die on average SIX YEARS EARLIER than women for reasons that are largely preventable. Movember recognises that it doesn’t have to be this way! They have a great range of resources and contacts for those wanting to better their physical or mental health, or support the men in their lives.

Be a part of Movember 2020 by showing your support. Even a simple donation or social media share can help change the face of men’s health.

Join us by donating to our Go Fund Me ; liking us and sharing our social media voltoraindustries or   Voltora Industries – Electrical & Air-Conditioning Contractors. You can also keep track of how our staff members are progressing with their ‘mo’ on our social media channels.
